Joy

“If you smile at me, I will understand ‘cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language.”

– Crosby, Stills & Nash

We wanted to save a space for the one who really put the Joy in Joyryder, Joy Jones Marsh. I picked this Crosby, Stills & Nash quote  because it was the very quote she chose for her yearbook page in high school and then as luck would have it, in her early twenties she happened to meet the band in a hotel in NYC and they gave her a rose. She had that affect on people, even rockstars it seemed.

People were always drawn to her beauty, her light, her generous heart, and most of all—her incredible smile. If she were here today, you’d see what I mean. I am biased because she was my mother, my best friend, and  my northern star. She was always honest and boy was she funny as hell! She could find a laugh in any situation and she’d give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She left the earth too soon but left behind millions of memories and smiles for those who were lucky enough to know her.

She was an artist in her soul. she marched to her own drum through the world, armed with a guitar or a camera, two steps at a time. If you had the flu, she’d give you a hot water bottle and sing you The Beatles and if she was making spaghetti in the kitchen she’d be dancing on the ceiling with Lionel or taking it easy with The Eagles. She knew how to keep it real and she knew how to find the Joy in her ryde and share it with others. We look to her as our example and hope we can do the same.
